Kitchen Tickets
Each order received from the Ordering application is displayed on a seperate ticket on the kitchen display. This section describes the components of a kitchen ticket.
Note
Depending on how the system administrator configured the system, the layout of kitchen tickets may vary.
Kitchen Ticket Header
The following describes the information fields that may be displayed in the header of kitchen tickets. The system administrator determines which fields are displayed.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Cashier Name | The name of the cashier who entered the order. |
Course Names | The name of the course associated with the ticket (e.g. Appetizer, Entree, Dessert). |
Customer Name | When a customer name is added to an order at theĀ OrderingĀ application, aĀ Customer NameĀ field is displayed. If a customer name is not added, theĀ Customer NameĀ field is hidden. |
Elapsed Hold Timer | The Hold Timer specifies the amount of time an order has been sitting in the āHoldā area awaiting customer arrival. The Hold Timer is triggered on a designated screen when items from a corresponding order are bumped from its related upstream screens. |
Expo Number | The expo number associated with the order. An Expo number is a short number that is used to easily identify an order. It is typically communicated to the customer when they place their order and later called out to them when their order is ready. |
Kitchen Ticket Number | The sequential number assigned to each ticket on the kitchen display. |
Kitchen Ticket Superheader | The kitchen ticket superheader is an optional indicator that informs the kitchen staff when an order no longer requires preparation, such as aĀ Cleared,ĢżDeleted, orĀ VoidedĢż“ǰł»å±š°ł. |

NoteOrder state names are configurable and may vary. |
Order Timer | TheĀ order timerĀ indicates how much time has passed since the order arrived in the kitchen. After a defined amount of time passes, the order timer either changes color or an animation event plays to alert the kitchen staff that the order is overdue. NoteWhether the order timer changes color or an animation event plays is dependent on how the application is configured. |
Priority Orders | WhenĀ XKMĀ receives an order from theĀ OrderingĀ application with a priority flag,ĢżXKMĀ identifies the order as follows:
This notifies the kitchen staff that they need to prepare the priority order immediately before other orders in the queue. If more than one priority order is sent to the kitchen, the priority orders are sequenced in the order that they are received. |
Server Name | The name of the server who entered the order. |
Table Number | The table number associated with the order. |
Table Tent Number | The table tent number associated with the order. |
Terminal ID | The ID of the Ordering application terminal from which the order was sent. |

Kitchen Ticket Footer
The following describes the information fields that may be displayed in the footer of kitchen tickets. The system administrator determines which fields are displayed.
Field | Description |
---|---|
Countable Items | The "countable" items that are included in the bag/tray for the customer. This enables the staff to quickly determine whether the bag/tray contains the correct number of items. |
Item Count | The total number of order items. |
Order Total | The order total (dollar amount due). |
Original Order Number | A visual indicator for orders that were combined or split at the Ordering application. The indicator includes the original order number. |
Pickup Date | The date/time or day part when the customer will pick up their order. A countdown timer may also appear that indicates the amount of time (MM:SS) that is left until the order's defined Pickup Time. |
Parent/Child Item Relationships
Order items may have parent/child relationships.
For example, a combo meal include a parent item (e.g. Hamburger) and its child items (e.g. French Fries and Beverage). Parent/child item relationships are identified on kitchen tickets by their visual representation.
The parent item is displayed in bold text. The child items are displayed in plain text indented below the parent item.
Note
The font and color used to identify order item modifiers are configurable and may vary.
In some parent/child item relationships, the child items may have modifiers and/or have child items of their own.
The kitchen displays support an infinite number of parent/child item relationship levels. However, the visual representation of the hierarchy does not extend beyond five levels.
If an order's parent/child item relationships exceed five levels, then those items are visually represented as fifth-level items.
Combine Identical Items
The system administrator may configure XKM to automatically combine identical order items on the kitchen ticket. This feature conserves space and makes orders easier to read.
The orderĀ items are consolidated on a single line with the quantity displayed to the left of the item name.
If the order item quantity is updated at the Ordering application, the quantity on the kitchen ticket changes color to alert the kitchen staff.
Note
Order items are only consolidated when all of their respective item modifiers and/or child items are identical.
Order Item Grouping
Note
Order item grouping is an optional feature and may not be available.
In store environments where orders are composed of multiple seats, trays or bags, order items are segmented accordingly on the kitchen ticket to facilitate the delivery of the order to the customer.
Each segment on the order is identified by one of the following heading names: Bag, SeatĢż“ǰłĢżTray. The order items for each segment are listed below this heading.
The segment name may differ based on the order destination. For example, the segment name forĀ Dine InĀ orders may be Tray, while the segment name forĀ Carry OutĀ orders may be Bag.
Order Item Modifiers
Order items may be specially ordered or modified at the Ordering application.
For example, a customer might order aĀ HamburgerĀ and request theĀ Extra Pickles modifier.
Order item modifiers are identified on kitchen tickets by their visual representation. Similar to child items, modifiers are displayed indented below the related item.
Note
The font and color used to identify order item modifiers may vary.
Item Category Highlighting
Order items that are members of a particular item category may be highlighted in a unique color on the kitchen ticket.
This optional feature enables the kitchen staff to easily identify particular items on an order.
For example, any order items that are members of theĀ ChickenĀ Item Category are highlighted in orange.
Order Spans Multiple Tickets
When the order item list is too long to fit in the space provided on a single kitchen ticket, the order item list is continued on another ticket.
The new kitchen ticket may be displayed on the next row/column of the display if the current row/column is full.
When an order spans multiple kitchen tickets, the kitchen tickets appear with a jagged edge. The jagged edge indicates that the order items on the tickets are part of the same order.
Order Courses
Kitchen may be configured to separate order items on the kitchen display based on their respective course.
When an order is made up of different coursesĀ (e.g. Appetizer, Entree, Dessert), the order items for each course are displayed on separate kitchen tickets.
Each ticket is associated with the same order number and the respective course name is identified in the ticket header.
Ticket headers may be configured to appear in a unique color to help the kitchen staff quickly identify the respective course.
Alerts and Indicators
When certain conditions arise or specific events occur, the kitchen display generates an alert and displays an indicator to notify the kitchen staff.
Order State Indicators
An order state indicator is displayed in the kitchen ticket header to differentiate orders that are "in progress" (i.e. PENDING) from orders that are finalized (i.e. SAVED, PAID or VOID).
Order State | Description |
---|---|
PENDING | The order is in progress at the Ordering application. The order timer in the ticket header is replaced with an animation event to alert the kitchen staff that more order items may be added. |
SAVED | The order is saved, but not yet tendered. |
PAID | The order is tendered. |
VOID | The order is cancelled. Do not prepare the order items. |
Audio Alerts
Kitchen displays can be setup to play an audio alert to notify the kitchen staff of the following events. A unique sound plays for each event.
Event | Description |
---|---|

|
Display Startup |
|
Hold Timer Overdue | The Hold Timer specifies the amount of time an order has been sitting in the āHoldā area awaiting customer arrival. The Hold Timer is triggered on a designated screen when items from a corresponding order are bumped from its related upstream screens. Open order has exceeded the maximum number of seconds since the order has been sitting in the āHoldā area awaiting customer arrival. The order is now "overdue". |
Hold Timer Warning | Open order has reached the overdue warning threshold since the order has been sitting in the āHoldā area awaiting customer arrival. The order will soon be "overdue". |

Kitchen Messages
The order taker at the Ordering application may add a message to an order with special instructions for the kitchen staff. The message may be related to the entire order or a particular order item.
When theĀ kitchen messageĀ relates to a particular order item, it is displayed on the ticket below that order item.
When the kitchen message relates to the entire order, it is displayed above the list of order items.
